Mom Smith is safely tucked away in a lovely little Care Facility! Denny and I went with her (I went in the actual little ambulance) when the guy came to pick her up. We were expecting a bit of a "tiff", but she was quite okay with the whole thing. She wasn't HAPPY, of course . . . but she went, and is now safe and sound for the few days Pop needs to be in Holbrook. She will be visited every day by a family member.
How are you enjoying the Olympics? I found the Opening Ceremony a bit of a snooze, frankly. What was with those guys with the tall black hats and weird hand motions? But wasn't the Queen fun with "James Bond"??? And the "dove bikers" were cool. Rowan Atkinson is always funny too. I was very disappointed to discover today that NBC cut a beautiful tribute to the 7/7 survivors (the terrorist attack in England the day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics). A friend posted a report about the tribute on Facebook today. Do you know what was put in its place on the broadcast? That inane interview between Ryan Seacrest and Michael Phelps! ??????? And our hearts broke to see Mohammed Ali in such terrible shape. But LOVED the seven young athletes carrying the torches at the end, and finally lighting the cauldron. That was a surprise! Well . . . it sounds like we liked quite a BIT in the Opening Ceremony after all! I think it was the first 1/2 hour or so that did us in. ZZZZZZzzzzzz.
We so much loved having Rory here with us Friday afternoon and evening. Denny checked our past calendar, we discovered that Rory has been with us each Friday afternoon/evening since she was born!
Fridays are OUR time with Rory. We love it! Andrew has Fridays off work, so this gives Andrew and Ali time to do something together. And -OH, POOR US!!!!!!- we get to have Rory!
'Bye, guys! More later . . . ;-]

"TOMORROW! TOMORROW! (**singing**) WE GET RORY TOMORROW!"
Okey dokey, then! Just called Ali to request Rory's presence at our house tomorrow afternoon and evening while we enjoy the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics! YAY! ;-] Ali and Andrew can go out and do whatever they want, and we get to feed, bathe, change, rock and LOVE baby Rory! We are DEFINITELY getting the better deal.
We are going to need the uplift Rory always gives us, because Saturday is going to be a very rough day. Denny's Mom is doing very poorly and needs 24/7 care. Her husband has to leave for a few days to complete some responsibilities in his home in Holbrook. He is the Stake Patriarch and has a few blessings lined up this weekend. He will be gone for five days. None of us can stay with Mom at her home in Tempe full-time, so she is going to removed to a Nursing Care Facility on Saturday. And GUESS which two people are going to be with her when the team arrives to pick her up????? YEP! Den and Sue! But please understand that we volunteered . . . we don't want Pop or anyone else to be take the brunt of Mom's feelings. Pop told her last week that she was going to the facility, and she was very upset. We are gearing up to be patient, loving and kind . . . We will follow the little ambulance to the facility and then help Mom get settled. She is NOT going to be happy when we leave her there . . . but she will be well cared for, and one member of the family will visit her every day.
We have been asked by our Bishop to speak on a very sensitive subject in this Sunday's combined RS/Priesthood Meeting. We have both been preparing for it since he talked to us Tuesday night. We are humbled that we were asked to do this.

THESE THINGS I KNOW . . .
Thoughts for the day:
1. Denny wins the #1 Best Hubby Award of All Time. You wanna know what he does for me? When I had cataracts and couldn't read, had my eye surgeries and couldn't read, and during the time my eyes were healing up and I still couldn't read . . . Denny (bless his angel heart!) would tuck me into bed every night, and read me a story! Then, after my eyes finally healed, I got new glasses and could read for myself, he kept it up! We both enjoy it so much!!!! We started with "The Education of Hyman Kaplan" (volumes 1 and 2), and then moved on to Dave Barry's books of short stories. He has published 22 books. So fun! Every night, I get tucked in, read to, and kissed "goodnight". THAT wins him the #1 Best Husband Award in my eyes!
2. I MUST lose weight. One of these days, it's going to "click"and my mind and heart will take charge of my resistant, stubborn body. Done it before; can do it again! SOON? Who knows?
3. Aurora Rose "Rory" Mills is the sweetest, most cheerful, prettiest baby in the world. Yesterday, our family met at Denny's Mom's house to retake our Five Generation picture. Denny's Aunt Arlene came to fix Mom's hair and dress her in something nice. Rory was sound asleep when her Mom and Dad brought her into the house to the clamor of ten adults oohing and aahing over her every move. She woke up cheerful and happy- with cute smiles and grins. Not a complaint! She "posed" happily for photo after photo as pictures were taken of her with every conceivable group. Oh, how we LOVE that baby girl!
4. Tending Rory is great fun! We had her the other night, and I was trying valiantly NOT to feed her before her Papa (Denny) got home. We were going to bathe her, and then Denny wanted to feed her. But he got held up at his Mom's house and Rory was getting pretty hungry. I held her in my arms and tried the pacifier on her. HAH! She sucked on it 3 or 4 times, then spit it out, glared at me with those big dark blue eyes, opened her mouth as WIDE as it would go, and really let me have it! YIKES! I was chuckling so hard I could barely get her bottle ready. She really let her GG have it!
5. Elder Nick Bowler comes home in less than 2 months. Can't believe it! He has been a stellar missionary in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission. He became a Zone Leader very early in his mission, and has raised the Zones he's led into the Top Zones in the Mission. His letters have been uplifting, hilarious, scary, and beautiful. WE have enjoyed his mission almost as much as HE has. It will be wonderful to have him home again.

SATURDAY PONDERISMS
The Temple is closed for two weeks for maintenance . . . and we miss our service there. At least it is only for two weeks! We feel like the other people serving there are our family, and we miss seeing them. Denny and I serve two nights a week, and LOVE it. We come home sometimes very tired, but it a WONDERFUL tired, and we wouldn't change it.
We have made some warm friends on our Temple shifts. It is so good to go "home" twice a week. We both love our coordinators. Mine are so good to me, which I appreciate. Some of the positions are hard for me to handle physically, and our coordinators are kind to give me things I can do. LOVE THEM!
Denny is at the Temple right now. During maintenance, they need brethren to sit at a recommend desk at the ramp door to check the recommends of the workers coming in and out. Denny is there from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. He volunteered for next Saturday too. He's a good man!
Tomorrow, Denny and I are going over to Tempe to watch over Denny's Mom for a few hours- giving Pop the chance to go to Church and anything else he'd like to do. We won't be able to teach our 16-18 year old Sunday School class (we LOVE that class!), but we have a great substitute (Br. Don Hughes), and he will be terrific. We miss the kids in our class when we don't see them. ;-[ WAH!
I am busy indexing for the Family History Project. I am saddened to hear that we are nearly finished with the 1940 Census. I mean, it is wonderful, of course . . . but I am sad that I won't be able to do it anymore. I know there are other items to index, but I don't know how yet. I'm sure someone will be happy to teach me, right?
I don't know how interesting this pondering can possibly be to anyone, but I have decided to keep this blog going . . . I'll try to be more interesting in the future! ;-] Bye for now!

A VISIT WITH RORY!
Soooooo, I'm so excited because Rory is coming over any minute! In case you somehow missed the worldwide celebration, Rory is our month-old great-granddaughter. Andrew -her Daddy- has the day off, and we volunteered to take care of Rory for the day so Ali and Andrew could do something fun together. Yeah- we're just that cool.
Right now, Denny is at his Mom's house in Tempe. She is doing very poorly, and needs a great deal of care, 24/7. Her husband just cannot take total care of her any longer. Denny has been going over nearly every day this week to help. Pop (Mom's hubby) is absolutely FABULOUS with her, but it is hard for just one person to care for her these days. We are so grateful for everything Pop has done and continues to do for Mom. Denny went over again this morning to help out, but will be home by 3:00 to spend time with Rory. Anyway, back to Mom: we all feel that her time on earth is probably coming to a close very soon. This is not as sad as this sounds: she is miserable and has told us that she is really ready to go. We will, of course, be sorrowful when the time comes. But we will also be grateful that she will be out of pain, and have her whole mind back.
YAY! Rory is here! Andrew and Ali dropped her off, and she is sound asleep on the couch right next to me. What a darling little princess she is! Am I prejudiced? YES! Do I care? NOPE! I love the little sounds she makes while she sleeps. When she is awake and we are "talking" to each other, she really expresses herself! I've never heard such adorable "coos" in my life. . . . sigh . . . Oh my, we LOVE Rory! Denny absolutely LOVES, ADORES, is CRAZY about her!!!! She will call him "Papa" and will call me "GG" (for Great-Grandma). Cute, huh?
Whoops! I see little arms and legs beginning to flail around in the blanket next to me. Guess it's time to
play with our little miss. See ya all later!
